Our Philosophy

 Our Philosophy

Since 1949, the First Congregational Church of Western Springs Preschool has successfully fostered a love of learning in young children.

Our curriculum is strongly based on active participation, and our mission is simple:  to advance a young child’s independence and positive self-concept, setting the stage for a lifetime of successful learning.

At the First Congregational Church of Western Springs Preschool we believe:

~To develop academic confidence we must focus on the whole child:  intellectually, socially, emotionally, physically and spiritually.

~Children at play are actively involved in creating themes, exploring and establishing environments, solving problems, and developing shared understandings.

~When engaged in play-based learning, young children see others’ points of view, learn to use language in new ways, learn to interact with others, and develop their muscles and coordination.

~By focusing on multi-sensory process art, the children are able to explore using their senses and develop skills while creating instead of a sole focus on the end product.

~Active involvement from parents is critical to the success of our program, and we encourage parents to partner with our teachers to facilitate the learning process.
